I find myself wanting to encapsulate the Northwest Reiki Gathering at Breitenbush Hot Springs (August 13-15) for those who could not attend. Of course, I could never fully take you there. The theme for this 26th annual gathering was "Bringing Your Practice Home." More specifically, we were asked to look at our self-Reiki practice and where are we on the path with this ancient healing art. Our facilitators were Susan and Paul Mitchell. They are both students of Hawayo Takata and have practiced Reiki for more than 30 years. We brainstormed together the words for the essence of self-treatment. Words like, "perpetual amazement" and "coming home" came. Paul Mitchell framed it this way, “The ordinary is essential; the ordinary is sacred." Susan Mitchell suggested we could look to self-treatment as being "in relationship with Reiki." We had two opportunities to share about our practice in small groups. Outside of the formal program we had many opportunities to commune with nature and one another with soaks at the hot springs, watching the shooting stars, contemplating the wild Breitenbush River, jumping in the swimming hole, or hanging out by the lodge on the swings, steps or lawn. We often had opportunity to sing in the large group led by Ellen Montague's lovely voice. The following song written by Jane Cherrington was my favorite. This is the gift of myself / This is the song of my life / The song of who I am And I'm wrapping me up in the waters of life / And I'm flowing, flowing home to the ocean that is you
